Studio Philosophy:

Ocean Bound Studios strives to offer an atmosphere of respect, inclusivity, and curiosity. In addition, a spirit of openness and playfulness along with perseverance are essential parts of a musician’s learning journey. Our teachers continually engage in professional learning and we encourage our students to bravely welcome opportunities for practice and performance as they are offered. We also recognize that every student’s path is different and we aim to support each individual’s unique goals.

General Information:

​

Lessons occur weekly at an agreed upon, regularly scheduled lesson time.

​

Regular student attendance is expected. Music lessons, regardless of instrument, will generally include technical training, ear training, and repertoire preparation, offering students a well-rounded studio experience.

​

Parents with students under the age of 10 are welcome to attend lessons. During the lesson, parents are encouraged to take notes and ask questions for clarification if needed. Parents of students aged 10 and older may wait outside the studio. If a parent wishes to leave during the lesson and return for pickup, pickup must occur on time in order to respect the time of the teacher and other students. Frequent late pick-ups may result in loss of your lesson time slot.

Tuition:

​

The student’s tuition holds their lesson time slot for them throughout each session, meaning that the teacher will be available to teach the student at that time every week. We offer an equal-payment-plan model for tuition. This means that the student will pay the same amount each month for a set number of lessons per session or per year. 

​

If students wish to commit to a year of lessons, we guarantee 36 lessons per year. This means there are two lessons that are gratuitous; the student or teacher can cancel up to two lessons with no effect on our regular schedule. 

​

If students wish to commit to just one session at a time, their slot cannot be guaranteed for the following session.

There are a limited number of single lesson time slots that are available weekly with each teacher at their discretion.

 

Fall Session: 14 lessons

Winter Session: 12 lessons

​

Spring Session: 12 lessons

​

Total Lessons: 38

Tuition Costs:

​

30 min: $31.00 (single lesson)

​

• 36 lessons x 30min. = $1116.00

• $1116/10 = $111.60 per month

​

45 min: $46.50 (single lesson)

​

• 36 lessons x 45min. = $1674.00

• $1674/10 = $167.40 per month

​

60 min: $62.00 (single lesson)

​

• 36 lessons x 60min. = $2160.00

• $2160/10 = $216.00 per month

Summer Lessons:

A limited quantity of lessons will be available during the months of July and August. Lessons taken in those months will follow an equal payment plan based on the total number of desired lessons.

Payment Policies:

Payment will be received on either the last day of the current month, or the first of the next. For example, September 30, 2026 or October 1, 2026. In months where there is a bank holiday on the first, payment should be sent or delivered for the last day of the current month.

​

In the case of single lessons, payment must be received before the lesson can take place.

​

Students will pay their tuition via EMT to: oceanboundstudios@gmail.com or by post-dated cheques made out to the teacher: Kristen English or Julien Bouchard.

​

If payment is received later than the first of the month, there will be a 5% late fee added to that month’s tuition.

Lesson Materials:

​

If method books or sheet music are required, students and/or parents will be notified via an email which will include links to where the materials may be purchased. 

​

It is important that each student arrives at their lesson on time with any required materials, including, but not limited to: method books, sheet music in a duotang or ½-inch / 1-inch binder, a notebook, a pencil, drumsticks, an instrument, etc. We recommend that each student has a dedicated bag to carry their lesson materials.

We are unable to provide an instrument for you or your child. There are multiple borrowing / rental options available in the area including, the A.C. Hunter Public Library, Long & McQuade, and The Music Collection.

Please feel free to contact the studio with any questions regarding purchasing or renting an instrument.

​

Please note, that although your child may have an instrument from the very first lesson, depending on their age, we may not actively use the instrument in every single lesson. This is dependent on the age and skill progression of the student and the levels of focus and energy brought to the lesson.

​

It is recommended to purchase a music stand for use at home in order to reinforce efficient playing posture. 

​

Apps may be encouraged for use at home in order to practice music theory and / or ear-training skills as desired / required.

 

​

Practicing:

​

It is important that students develop a routine and are practicing regularly at home.

​

We encourage goal-oriented practice however most students can achieve positive results by following the guidelines below:

​

Ages 5-8: 15 minutes daily

​

Ages 9-12: 25 minutes daily

​

Ages 13+: Minimum 45 minutes daily (depending on level of repertoire)

​

Regular, consistent practice, listening to assigned repertoire, and exploring new repertoire are highly recommended in order to see progress.

 

​

Cancellations / Make-up Lessons:

​

Cancellations will be communicated with the teacher / student no later than four hours prior to the scheduled lesson time, unless extenuating or emergent circumstances prevent this. Cancellation via text message (SMS) or email is preferable when possible. 

​

Any student-cancellations beyond the two gratuitous lessons included annually will be considered as missed lessons. One make-up lesson for a missed lesson is permitted per session. Other missed lessons will be forfeited. 

​

Teacher cancellations will be made up at a mutually agreed upon date/time.

​

If a student would like to withdraw from lessons, one month’s notice is expected, or one month’s payment in lieu of notice.

 

​

Communication:

Please prioritize communicating via text message (SMS) or email. When awaiting a response, please allow for a 48 hr response window. Please identify yourself and/or the student in the initial message.
